Composite Breast Augmentation
Women with naturally small breasts or those who have lost breast volume due to weight-loss or previous surgery may not have enough breast tissue to sufficiently cover an implant. Placing an implant alone to restore volume leads to an unnatural appearance of breasts and causes stretching of the skin overlying the implant. To combat this Dr. Del Vecchio uses a technique called Composite Breast Augmentation in which he places the implant underneath the muscle and during the same procedure places fat within the breast tissue that gives breast a natural appearance and feel. He obtains fat by liposuctioning areas of unwanted fat including the abdomen, inner thighs and back. The procedure typically takes 1 ½ -2 hours with a recovery time 48 to 72 hours. Most patients are able to return to work within several days of the procedure.
